Responsible Tourism

The importance of finding sustainable ways to travel is greater than ever, and at APT Travel Group (ATG), we recognize our responsibility to the planet. Responsible tourism involves being socially and culturally aware of our surroundings, minimizing our environmental impact, and traveling in a way that respects local communities, the environment, and individual cultures.

Sustainability

ATG is committed to providing guests with unforgettable journeys that benefit everyone involved. We support various initiatives across the company, ensuring that you can travel with confidence, knowing that the places you visit are positively impacted. Below is a snapshot of the initiatives we are currently running.

The Wachau is the landscape in and around the Danube valley between Melk and Krems an der Donau in Lower Austria, about 80 kilometers west of the federal capital Vienna. In 2000 it was added to the list of UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage as the Wachau cultural landscape with the Melk and Göttweig monasteries and the old town of Krems.

Sustainability On Our Ships

Our ships utilise the most advanced and environmentally friendly technology currently available, earning us the Green Award ‘Gold’ status. We champion eco-conscious best practices with no single-use plastics, and menus that minimise food waste.

Mekong Serenity

Sustainability practices on the Mekong Serenity are important for decreasing the environmental impact on our Vietnam and Cambodia tours. Guests are encouraged to bring reusable water bottles to refill on the ship’s onboard water stations. There are refillable glass bottles in each cabin that guests can use and biodegradable rice straws in lieu of plastic straws. The usage of paper used on board the ship is also minimised with forms accessible via the in-suite TVs rather than printed out.

MS Estrela

The newly launched MS Estrela embraces a range of sustainability initiatives aimed at minimising environmental impact. Its Stage 5 Volvo Penta engines are designed for greater fuel efficiency, significantly reducing overall pollution. In the dining areas, plastic straws have been eliminated, and water refill stations have replaced single-use plastic bottles.

Additionally, the vessel implements a qualified food waste reduction program as well as a Deposit System for glass and cans with our suppliers to further enhance its eco-conscious operations. In each cabin’s en suite, refillable amenities replace single-use bottles for shampoo, conditioner, and soap.
